Overview
What is Health and Environmental Science?
Health + Environment = Future.
Health and Environmental Science is an interdisciplinary field that integrates Health Science Technology aimed at preventing diseases and improving human health with Environmental Science Technology, which focuses on managing pollutants and developing sustainable energy within various environments such as natural, residential, and occupational settings. Recently, chronic diseases, congenital disorders, developmental disabilities, and other non-communicable health issues associated with harmful environmental factors such as radiation, chemicals, physical agents, biomechanical stress, and biological toxins have been rapidly increasing. As a result, both Korea and other developed countries are recognizing the importance of this issue and shifting from traditionally separate environmental and health policies toward integrated approaches that consider humans and their environment together.
Because the causes of disease are diverse and complex, Health and Environmental Science requires an interdisciplinary approach that combines basic sciences such as chemistry, physics, and biology with applied sciences including engineering, public health, and statistics. The department aims to train professionals who can identify and minimize environmental risk factors that negatively affect human health, thereby enabling early monitoring and prevention of diseases. In addition, it seeks to cultivate globally competent experts who can create high value by applying radiation in industrial and medical fields, and who can effectively respond to safety and health issues arising in the radiation and nuclear industries.
